LCK - Left Coast Kitchen - Merrick, NY
Its pretty incredible, my first time was with my boyfriend’s sister for her birthday. It’s a small place, but its packed with yummy goodness. The drinks are fantastic. But my favorite item is the mac and cheese. It’s a side, its $7 it enough for 2 people easily. It’s baked in the oven in a big bowl. It’s christmas to me. I’m an addict. I usually share that and a Cesar salad. They have great apps to share the BLT Spinach Dip is great with homemade chips. Everything is big enough to share with another person if you’re on a budget but if i could never gain weight I would be there everyday for that mac and cheese. The portions at LCK are big in general. So it is a great place to go with friends and share a meal or a few apps. If you’re celebrating a birthday or other event it’s totally worth it for the tower of power which is tower of cupcakes, brownies, cookies and fruit loop treats. It’s a real treat that everyone can appreciate.

NERBONE - Central Market - Florence, Italy

This find was something I found with other people on my trip two years ago. However I am not a fan of roast beef, but my friends are, and Nerbone has the best roast beef sandwich in Florence. I post this for those of you who do like roast beef. For those who don’t like roast beef they do have great sautéed spinach, risotto and pasta. They are located in the food market and usually have a large line that wraps around the market.

Caffe Duomo, near the Duomo, Florence, Italy

I’ve been to the Caffe Duomo, long before Snooki found it. I remember being on my study abroad trip with Adelphi University and religiously eating bruschetta for lunch almost everyday. Since my last visit to this lovely small cafe, things have changed mainly the size and crunchiness of the bruschetta. My first few times they served you a platter of bruschetta with 8 pieces for about 8 euros. Now they serve you 4 pieces for about six. But the bigger issue the crunchiness, they used to be toasted, now they’re soggy?! It was good but I love crunchiness especially when they’re ripened tomatoes on top with basil and a pinch of salt. Other then my small comments my experience was still great, those tomatoes were amazingly fresh. I found a deal there-a glass of wine and eggplant parmigiana for 8 euros. The eggplant parmigiana was great, and surprisingly without bread crumbs.

Trattoria Nerone - Florence, Italy — near San Lorenzo leather market
I’ve had a opportunity to be in Florence, Italy prior to this trip. It was two years ago for a study abroad trip. And Nerone was a place I couldn’t forget and had the chance this round to go once more. Nerone has a variety of italian cuisine, I’d like to believe last time I ordered chicken with mushroom sauce. This round I went for the gnocchi with buffalo mozzarella and tomato sauce. It was good, not my favorite of the gnocchi dishes Ive had on this trip but it was the best tomato sauce. I’m the kind of person who loved melted cheese, theta was my major issue. The cheese wasn’t melted but I didn’t let that stop me from eating it.
My friends ordered other dishes like stuffed rabbit, balsamic chicken, and ravioli among other dishes. All the food looked great and we enjoyed chocolate tarts for dessert. Next time I wouldn’t dare share that chocolate tart with two others. It was too good.

Osteria San Spirito, Florence, Italy — On Piazza San Spirito - My table ordered the bruschetta to start with. The bruschetta at this restaurant has a bit of kick. I’m told by a friend that they must rub garlic on the bread prior to assembling all the tomatoes to give it a spicy kick. It came out crunchy and loaded with bright red cherry tomatoes.

I’ve eaten here twice, and twice ordered Gnocchi au Gratin. Its like they’ve take gnocchi to a new level of creamy, cheesy hot goodness. It comes to you piping hot, best not touch it for 5 minutes as hard as it is. I took those five minutes to admire it and then couldn’t help but take one. They also have great spaghetti with garlic, and fresh veggies.  One of my other friends order zucchini risotto. After we finished it’s was food coma, but our waitress found a way to talk us in lemoncello on the house. Which was a nice surprise.

CIAK - Monterosso, Cinque Terre, Italy
I’ve recently had the pleasure of traveling to italy for 8 days with some lovely people. So I think it’s best to start on my trip. We had the opportunity to go to Monterosso al mare, on my birthday. Where we experienced the best garlic pesto gnocchi I have ever tasted. I’m not normally a pesto person. I sometimes find it too much. But here it was grand. I’d like to think the addition of garlic is what the pesto needed. Monterosso is one of the five town aka Cinque Terre, which if you ever have the chance go! They have beautiful beaches and heavenly food.
We went to CIAK’s in Monterosso, they served family style to our surprise so everyone could share. Those gnocchi weren’t mushy but perfectly cooked and as when watch our server mixed them into pesto all I wanted was to eat!
So here they are!

A ginger must eat. I’ve been harassed to make a food blog of sorts, and I’ve finally decided to do so. I’m a foodie. There’s no shame in that. I love food but I am also a picky eater but when I find a place that has something spectacular I always share. So I’m hoping to use this as a guide to places I’ve been.
